स्वेच्छाचारिता आदि दोष

प्रीति के पात्र,
***** बहुत दिनों से मुझे आपका कोई पत्र प्राप्त नहीं हुआ। श्रीमान् प्रचार के लिये मठ से बाहर गया हुआ था । वह कहाँ–कहाँ गया था और उसने कितनी भिक्षा संग्रह करके भेजी है, मैं यह जानने का इच्छुक हूँ। कोई मठसेवक प्रचार के लिये अकेला बाहर जाये, मैं इसे पसन्द नहीं करता। अनर्थग्रस्त साधकों में कनक, कामिनी और प्रतिष्ठा प्राप्ति की चेष्टाएँ प्रबल होती हैं। वैसी चेष्टाएँ साधक के द्वारा स्वयं ही स्वेच्छापूर्वक प्रश्रय प्राप्त न करें, साधकों का इस विषय में सतर्क रहना ही उचित है। स्वेच्छाचारिता भी बद्धजीव की अनेकानेक व्याधियों में से एक व्याधि है। प्रारम्भ में एक निष्कपट साधक में अनेकों अनर्थ रह सकते हैं, परन्तु उसकी सरलता के फलस्वरूप, भक्तों और भगवान् की कृपा के बल से, कुछ दिनों में ही, सर्वप्रथम उसके स्वेच्छाचारिता आदि दोष दूर हो जाते हैं। सूक्ष्म अनर्थों के दूर होने में कुछ समय लगता है, इसमें सन्देह नहीं है। अपनी अपेक्षा श्रेष्ठ, सजातीयाशय तथा अपने प्रति स्निग्ध साधुभक्तों के संग में वास करने से साधक अतिशीघ्र मङ्गल प्राप्त करता है, ऐसे संग में आनुगत्य करने का सुयोग होता है। आशा करता हूँ कि श्रीमान् मठ में लौट आया होगा अथवा शीघ्र ही लौट आयेगा। मुझे उसका कोई पत्र प्राप्त नहीं हुआ और मैं उसका पता भी नहीं जानता।

श्रीमान् ननीगोपाल कुछ दिन पूर्व अस्वस्थ हुए थे । आशा करता हूँ कि आपके स्नेह युक्त प्रयत्न से वह अतिशीघ्र स्वस्थ हो जायेंगे। सम्भव होने पर मैं निकट भविष्य में आगरतला मठ के लिये एक अर्चनकारी सेवक को भेजने का प्रयत्न करूँगा।

Dear recipient of my affection,

Although many days have passed, I have not received even a single letter from you. [REDACTED] has gone outside the matha to travel and preach. I wish to know his whereabouts and what contributions he has sent to benefit the services in the matha.

I am against any of the maṭha’s servants traveling and preaching alone. The desire to acquire wealth, women and prestige are strong in sadhakas who are full of anarthas. A sādhaka ought to be careful not to encourage those desires. The conditioned soul’s waywardness is among his greatest ailments. The non-duplicitous sādhaka may be full of anarthas initially, but because of his simplicity, coupled with the strength of the mercy of the devotees and Śri Bhagavān, his independent nature and similar faults are quickly removed, right from the start. Undoubtedly, the removal of one’s subtle anarthas takes time. By living in the association of devotees who are more advanced than, likeminded and affectionate to him, a sādhaka can very quickly attain auspiciousness. In such association, he has the opportunity to be under gui- dance. I hope that [REDACTED] has returned to the matha or returns soon. I have not received a letter from him, nor do I have an address for him.

Śrīman Nanīgopāla was ill some days before. I hope that he will quickly regain good health under your affectionate care. If possible, I will arrange for a sevaka who knows arcana to be sent to Agartala matha soon.
