मेरा स्नेह – आशीर्वाद

स्नेह के पात्र,
श्री* * * * * * * दास, मैं कोलकाता में नहीं था, अनेक स्थानों पर यात्रा कर रहा था, अतः तुम्हारा 1 माघ का लिखा पत्र, बहुत विलम्ब से मुझे प्राप्त हुआ है।
इस वर्ष श्रीनवद्वीप धाम परिक्रमा में बहुत से यात्रियों के समागम की सम्भावना है। उस समय तो भीड़ होगी ही, अभी उससे पहले भी यहाँ बहुत भीड़ इकट्ठी हो गयी थी, कारण किसी अज्ञात व्यक्ति ने चारों ओर एक मिथ्या बात फैला दी कि नवद्वीप में कुम्भ लगा है। साधारण लोगों को यह ज्ञात नहीं है कि बङ्गाल में कुम्भ नहीं होता, केवलमात्र हरिद्वार, प्रयाग, उज्जैन और नासिक – इन चार स्थानों पर ही कुम्भ होता है । इसलिये यह विभ्रान्ति हुई है।
जैसा भी हो, श्रीनवद्वीप धाम परिक्रमा अवश्य ही होगी । यात्रियों के लिये वासस्थान भी बनाये जा रहे हैं। बाँस, खड़ (फूस), मजदूरी आदि सभी के मूल्यों में वृद्धि हो गयी है। इतना ही नहीं, भोजन सामग्री के मूल्यों में भी वृद्धि हुई है। पूर्व में, यात्रियों के लिये इस परिक्रमा में भाग लेने के लिये कोई शुल्क निर्धारित नहीं था, किन्तु इस वर्ष परिक्रमा में आने वाले प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को ही कम-से-कम दस रूपये देकर और साथ में दो किलो चावल लाकर सहयोग करना होगा। सर्वप्रथम आकर सभी यात्रियों को परिक्रमा सम्बन्धी टिकिट लेना होगा। परिक्रमा के समय अनेक स्थानोंपर परिक्रमाकारी भक्तों और श्रद्धालुओं को बैठने का स्थान ही नहीं मिलता और उनसे पहले ही मार्ग में आवागमन करनेवाले सामान्य लोग आकर बैठ जाते हैं और प्रसाद पा जाते हैं, अतः इस वर्ष सभी यात्रियों को टिकिट दिया जायेगा। सम्भवतः बिना टिकिट के लोगों को प्रसाद एवं यात्री निवास में ठहरने नहीं दिया जायेगा।

अतः तुम उक्त निर्देशों के अनुसार ही व्यवस्था करके लोगों के साथ आ सकते हो। तुम स्वयं तो सर्वदा ही आ सकते हो और तुम्हें कोई शुल्क नहीं देना होगा, तुम अपने सामर्थ्य के अनुसार मृदङ्ग वादन और कीर्त्तन आदि मठ की सेवा करना । यदि अन्य कोई मृदङ्गवादक भी अपना मृदङ्ग लाकर प्रतिदिन परिक्रमा के समय अपना मृदङ्ग बजाता है और नगर भ्रमण में जाता है तब उसे भी किसी प्रकार का शुल्क नहीं देना होगा । किन्तु सभी को अपने साथ में टिकिट अवश्य रखनी होगी ।

तुम मेरा स्नेह – आशीर्वाद ग्रहण करना । मैं वायुयान के द्वारा आगामी कल कोलकाता लौटूंगा। परिक्रमा में भाग लेने के लिये यात्रियों को 25 फरवरी तक श्रीमायापुर में हमारे मठ में पहुँचना होगा।

Dear recipient of my affection,
Śri [REDACTED] dāsa, I was delayed in receiving the letter you sent on the first of the month of Magha (January-February), because I was not in Kolkata, but traveling around to many places.

There is a possibility that many pilgrims will gather for Śrī Navadvipa-dhāma parikramā this time. On top of that, someone or some persons have spread a false rumor about there being a Kumbha festival in Navadvīpa, and so there was a big crowd of people there. This confusion has occurred because ordinary folk do not know that the Kumbha festival takes place not in Bengal, but rather only in Haridvāra, Prayāga, Ujjain and Nasika.

Regardless, Śri Navadvipa-dhāma parikrama will surely happen. Accommodations are being prepared for the pilgrims. The costs of bamboo, hay and labor have increased. Not only that, but food costs have also risen. Previously, pilgrims paid no specific fee to participate in this parikramā. However, this time, any pilgrim who comes must pay at least ten rupees up front and bring a contribution of two kilograms of rice. They must also first procure tickets. At many places during the parikramā, the devotees and general pilgrims cannot find places to sit, because locals arrive early to occupy the available places and take prasāda. For this reason, we will give all pilgrims tickets this time. Without a ticketing system, it will not be possible for us to serve people prasāda or provide pilgrims with a place to stay.

You may make arrangements according to these guidelines and come along with the others. You are always welcome, and since you play mṛdanga, perform kirtana and render other services for the matha to the best of your ability, you will not be charged anything. If any other mydanga players come with their own mrdangas and go out every day during the parikramā and for nagara-sankirtana, they too will not be charged. Otherwise, everyone must purchase tickets.

Know that I am bestowing my affectionate blessings upon you all. I will return to Kolkata tomorrow by air. In order to perform the parikramā, pilgrims must reach our matha in Śrī Mayapura by 25 February.
