भगवान सर्वोत्तम तत्त्व, सभी ईश्वरों के ईश्वर हैं। वे ही सच्चिदानन्द स्वरूप पुरुषोत्तम तत्त्व हैं। व्यक्तित्व, चेतन सत्ता का गुण है, जड़ पदार्थ का नहीं।
जब भी हम —- जाते थे, आपके घर पर ठहरते थे। आपका घर हमारे वास के लिए उत्तम व सुविधाजनक है। आपके घर में हमारे वास की सुविधा को ध्यान में रहते हुए आप अपने स्वयं के घर को छोड़कर अपने परिचित अन्य व्यक्ति के घर में रहती थीं। यह आपकी निष्कपट वैष्णव सेवा प्रवृत्ति का परिचायक है।
वास्तव में, मुझे यह ज्ञात नहीं था कि आप अविवाहित हैं और आपने मुझे कभी नहीं बताया कि आप विवाह करने के लिए इच्छुक हैं। स्त्रियों के लिए भारत में साधारणतः ऐसा विधान है कि विवाह से पूर्व कन्या माता-पिता के संरक्षण में, विवाहिता स्त्री अपने पति के आश्रय में व वृद्धावस्था में अपने सुपुत्र के आश्रित होकर रहती है। कन्या के लिए युवावस्था में विवाह करना उत्तम है। भारत की सामाजिक व्यवस्था पश्चिमी देशों की सामाजिक व्यवस्था से भिन्न है। भारत में विवाह पुरोहित, माता-पिता, अभिभावक, परिवारजन व अन्य शुभाकांक्षी मित्रों की उपस्थिति में संपन्न होता है तथा वैवाहिक संबंध जीवन पर्यन्त निभाया जाता है। किन्तु मेरा अनुभव है कि अन्य देशों में वैवाहिक संबंध प्रायः स्थायी नहीं रहते हैं। आपके लिए अपने समाज व देश के नियमों के अनुसार विवाह करना उचित है। यदि आपको एक ऐसे वैष्णव पति मिले जो आजीवन आपको धर्मपत्नी के रूप में स्वीकार करने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध हो तो विवाह में कोई आपत्ति नहीं है।
गीता में, श्रीकृष्ण कहते हैं – जो एकान्त भाव से मेरी आराधना करते हैं, मैं उन्हें सद्-असद् का विवेक प्रदान करता हूँ जिससे वे मेरे सर्वोत्तम चिन्मय परमानन्द धाम को प्राप्त सके। श्रीकृष्ण यह भी कहते हैं, निष्कपट साधक की कभी भी दुर्गति नहीं होती। हमारे लिए क्या करणीय है और क्या अकरणीय, इसको भली भांति समझने के लिए मापदंड स्वयं वेद व्यास मुनि ने पद्म पुराण में दिया है—“हमें सदैव श्रीकृष्ण का स्मरण करना है व उन्हें कभी भूलना नहीं है।” निरन्तर श्रीकृष्ण स्मरण उपयोगी भक्ति अंगों के पालन के विषय में व श्रीकृष्ण विस्मृति कारक कर्मों के निषेध के विषय में शास्त्रों में बताया गया है। इन शास्त्र-विधान के अतिरिक्त यदि कोई क्रिया कृष्ण का स्मरण कराए तो वह स्वीकार्य व श्रीकृष्ण का विस्मरण कराए तो वह परित्यज्य है। शरणागति के बिना भक्ति सम्भव नहीं है। षडंग (छः अंग युक्त) शरणागति के विषय में तो आप अवगत हैं ही। मैं इसका विस्तार नहीं करना चाहता।
सनातन धर्म में मूर्ति-पूजा का विधान है। मूर्ति-पूजा (विग्रह-सेवा) और बुत-पूजा (पुतली-पूजा) में अनेक अन्तर है। हम पुतली-पूजक नहीं हैं। भगवान सर्वोत्तम तत्त्व, सभी ईश्वरों के ईश्वर हैं। वे ही सच्चिदानन्द स्वरूप पुरुषोत्तम तत्त्व हैं। व्यक्तित्व, चेतन सत्ता का गुण है, जड़ पदार्थ का नहीं। पृथ्वी पर कोई भी मृत शरीर को व्यक्ति नहीं मानता। जब तक इच्छा, क्रिया, अनुभूति लक्षणयुक्त चेतन सत्ता शरीर में विद्यमान है तब तक उसे व्यक्ति माना जाता है। यदि भगवान की चेतन शक्ति के एक अणु अंश को व्यक्ति माना जाता है तो यह मानने में क्या कठिनाई है कि, जिनकी सत्ता पूर्ण-सत्, पूर्ण-ज्ञान और पूर्ण-आनंदमय है, वे सर्वोत्तम पुरुष, पुरुषोत्तम हैं। उन्हें सर्वोत्तम पुरुष स्वीकार न करने का कोई कारण नहीं है।
इस संसार में भगवान के प्राकट्य का मूल कारण शुद्ध-भक्त की तीव्र विरह व्याकुलता को दूर करना है। भगवान के अनेक अवतार हैं, किन्तु श्रीकृष्ण स्वयं-भगवान (अवतारी) हैं, जैसा कि आपने लिखा हैं, ‘स्वप्रकाशित स्वयं-भगवान’। अपने एकान्त भक्त की शुद्ध-भक्ति से आकर्षित होकर श्रीकृष्ण स्वयं अपने अलौकिक नित्य स्वरूप में प्रकट होते हैं। हमने हमारे गुरुवर्ग से श्रवण किया है कि कर्मकांड-प्राण-प्रतिष्ठा सर्वथा अनिवार्य नहीं है।
आपके लिए, एक शुद्ध-भक्त द्वारा प्रकाशित श्री गुरुगौरांग राधाकृष्ण-विग्रह के चित्रपट की सेवा करना श्रेयस्कर होगा। उस स्थिति में, यदि आप किसी शारीरिक अथवा अन्य किसी कठिनाई के कारण सेवा करने में असमर्थ हैं, तो भी कोई गुरुतर अपराध नहीं होगा, क्योंकि आप यह स्मरण कर सकतीं हैं कि विग्रहों की सेवा-परिचर्या उस मंदिर में हो रही है जहाँ वे प्रतिष्ठित हैं। यदि विग्रहों की प्रतिष्ठा वैष्णव शास्त्रों के अनुसार की गई है तो, उन विग्रहों की सेवा-परिचर्या वैष्णव श्रुति के विधान के अनुसार प्रतिदिन की जाय, यह अनिवार्य है।
संभवतः भगवान् की इच्छा से, हम सितंबर महीने में रूस में कुछ स्थानों पर जा सकते हैं। उस समय मुझे आपसे व्यक्तिगत रूप से विस्तारपूर्वक बात करने का अवसर मिलेगा।

Mūrti-pūjā
The Supreme Lord is the Supreme Person, Lord of all Lords. He is the Transcendental Spiritual Supreme Person. Personality is attributed to the conscious principle and not to unconscious matter.
Whenever we had been to—- , we stayed at your house. The house is respectable and also comfortable for us. You left your own house and stayed in another person’s house known to you, thinking about our comforts to stay at your place. This proves you have got sincere desire to serve the vaiṣṇavas.
In fact, I had no knowledge that you were not married and you never told me you wanted to marry. In India, generally this is the rule for girls – first to remain under the shelter of parents and after that, by marriage, to remain under the shelter of husband and in old age, under the shelter of a competent son. Married life of a girl should be at a young age. The society in India is quite different from society in western countries. Here marriage is done in the presence of priest, parents, guardians and other well-wisher friends and the marriage relationship will last till the end of life. But it is my experience that married life relations may not be lasting in foreign countries. You are to marry according to your society and government rules. So if you get a vaiṣṇava husband who will accept you as wife permanently, there cannot be any objection to it.
In the Gītā, Śrī Krishna has advised – to those who worship the Supreme Lord with one- pointed devotion, God will bestow on them that sort of wisdom to understand what is good and what is bad and they can achieve the ultimate Blissful Transcendental Realm. Śrī Krishna also said, ‘A sincere soul will never be deceived’. The criterion to understand what we are to do and what we are not to do, is given by Veda Vyās Muni himself in Padma Purāṇa – we are to always remember Krishna, never to forget Him. There are some prescribed devotional practices to remember Krishna and there are also some prohibitions against those that make us forget Krishna. If there be any action beyond the prescribed commandments which will remind you of Krishna, it is allowed, and prohibitions which will make you forget Krishna are prohibited. Without śaraṇāgati, there cannot be any bhakti. You are aware that there are six fold teachings of śaraṇāgati. I don’t want to elaborate on this.
Mūrti-pūjā is permitted in sanātan dharma. There is a gulf of difference between mūrti- pūjā and idol worship. We are not idol worshippers. The Supreme Lord is the Supreme Person, Lord of all Lords. He is the Transcendental Spiritual Supreme Person. Personality is attributed to the conscious principle and not to unconscious matter. Nobody on earth considers a dead body to be a person. As long as consciousness, which has got thinking, feeling and willing, exists in the body, he is considered a person. If an atomic part of the conscious energy of the Supreme Lord is considered a person, what is the difficulty in understanding that He, Who has got Absolute Existence, Absolute Knowledge and Absolute Bliss (Complete Saccidānanda), is the Supreme Person. There is no reason for not accepting Him as the Supreme Person.
The root cause of the appearance of the Supreme Lord in this world is to remove extreme separation grief of the śuddha bhakta. There are numerous avataras, but Śrī Krishna is Original Bhagavān, as you have written, ‘self-manifesting svayam Bhagavān’. Śrī Krishna appears in His Transcendental Spiritual Form by the pure devotion in a pure devotee. We have heard from our guruvarg that karma-kāṇḍa prāṇ pratiṣṭā is not absolutely necessary.
It will be better for you to worship the portraits of manifested Deities Śrī Guru Gaurāṅga Rādhā-Krishna, installed by a pure devotee. In that case, if you are unable to worship the Deity due to some physical or other kind of difficulty, there will be no serious offence because you can remember that the Deities are being worshipped in the temple where they are installed. In the case when deities are installed as per prescript of vaiṣṇava śāstra, worship of those deities must be done without fail, as per regulation of vaiṣṇava śruti, daily.
I have heard, Supreme Lord God willing, we may go to some places in Russia in the month of September. I shall have the opportunity to speak to you personally in detail.
