बिना उत्साह, दृढ़ निश्चय कि कृष्ण अवश्य ही हम पर कृपा करेंगे, धैर्य, भक्ति-अंगों का पालन, दुःसंग त्याग व शास्त्र-वाक्यों में निष्ठा के अभाव में, हम भजन-मार्ग में सिद्धि प्राप्त नहीं कर सकते।

संसार के सभी जीव ‘काम’ रूपी हृदय रोग से ग्रस्त हैं। हमारे परम आराध्यतम गुरुदेव इस सन्दर्भ मे कुत्ते की पूँछ का दृष्टान्त दिया करते थे। कुत्ते की पूँछ को खींचकर सीधी कर दी जाए व तत्पश्चात् उसे यदि छोड़ दिया जाए तो वह अपनी यथावत् स्थिति में आ जाती है। इसी प्रकार, जितना समय हम साधु संग में रहते हैं, ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि हमारी बुद्धि ठीक हो गई है किन्तु जिस क्षण हम साधु-संग से दूर होते हैं, सब कुछ भूलकर हम अपनी यथास्थिति में वापस आ जाते हैं। भजन-मार्ग एक लंबी यात्रा है; हमें वाञ्छित फल की प्राप्ति अनायास ही नहीं हो सकती। जैसा कि श्रील रुप गोस्वामी ने उपदेशामृत में निर्देश किया है, “बिना उत्साह, दृढ़ निश्चय कि कृष्ण अवश्य ही हम पर कृपा करेंगे, धैर्य, भक्ति-अंगों का पालन, दुःसंग त्याग व शास्त्र-वाक्यों में निष्ठा के अभाव में, हम भजन-मार्ग में सिद्धि प्राप्त नहीं कर सकते।” संसार में भी धैर्य का अभाव होने पर हम सफल नहीं हो सकते। अतः आध्यात्मिक उन्नति के लिए अत्यधिक धैर्य की आवश्यकता है।
“आप श्रद्धा के साथ हरिनाम करें, वैष्णव-सेवा व श्रीमूर्ति-अर्चन करें,” प्रारंभ में श्रीचैतन्य महाप्रभु ने गृहस्थ वैष्णवों को इस प्रकार की शिक्षा प्रदान की थी। किन्तु पुनः गृहस्थ भक्तों ने जब अपने कर्तव्यों के विषय में जिज्ञासा प्रकट की थी तब चैतन्य महाप्रभु ने उन्हें इस प्रकार उपदेश दिया था, “आप श्रद्धा के साथ हरिनाम व वैष्णव-सेवा करें”, श्रीमूर्ति-अर्चन का उल्लेख नहीं किया। यह सत्य है कि गृहस्थ-भक्त, क्योंकि वे सांसारिक विषयों में आबद्ध हैं, उनके लिए श्रीविग्रह-पूजा की आवश्यक है, जिससे वे अपनी इन्द्रियों को श्रीविग्रह-सेवा में नियोजित कर सकें। किन्तु प्रतिष्ठित श्रीविग्रह की सेवा-परिचर्या निरपराधपूर्वक हो यह आवश्यक है। इसलिए एक गृहस्थ-भक्त को स्व गृह में श्रीविग्रह प्रतिष्ठित करने से पूर्व इस विषय पर गहन चिंतन करना है कि क्या वे श्रीविग्रह की निरन्तर निरपराध सेवा-पूजा करने में सक्षम हैं या नहीं। आप गुरु-वैष्णव-भगवान के आलेखों की सेवा-पूजा कर सकते हैं, जिसमें अपराध होने की संभावना न्यूनतम है।

Without earnestness, firm belief that Krishna will surely grace us, patience, practicing devotional service, disassociating from non-sādhus and accepting scriptural prescripts, we cannot get success in our devotional spiritual life.

Lust is the heart disease of all conditioned souls of the world. Our Most Revered Gurudev used to give an illustration of the dog. If the tail of the dog is made straight by pulling, the tail of the dog will return to its curled state, when the pulling is stopped. In a similar manner, at the time of associating with sādhus, we think we have become alright but the moment we give up the company of the sādhus, we forget everything and we come to the same state as we were before. It is a long journey; we cannot get the desired fruit all of a sudden. As Rūpā Goswāmī has said in the Upadeśāmṛta – “Without earnestness, firm belief that Krishna will surely grace us, patience, practicing devotional service, disassociating from non-sādhus and accepting scriptural prescripts, we cannot get success in our devotional spiritual life.” In your worldly life also, if you lose patience, you cannot succeed. So for spiritual amelioration, immense patience is necessary.
Chaitanya Mahāprabhu advised the household devotees first, “You do Harinām, you serve vaiṣṇavas and worship Deities”. But when household devotees again asked what they will do after going back to their home. Chaitanya Mahāprabhu advised them, “You do Harinām and serve vaiṣṇavas”, without mentioning about worship of Deities. It is true that householders, for their entanglement with worldly things, should worship Deities for engaging their sense-organs in service of the Deities. Worship of installed Deities should be performed without offence. A householder should think seriously before installing Deities, whether they will be able to worship Deities without offence and can continue the seva-pūjā. You can worship portraits of Guru-Vaishnavas- Bhagavān, where there is less possibility of committing offence.
