Glories of Sardanga
Sardanga is non-different from Sri Jagannath Puri, Purushottam Dham. Baladeva, Subhadra and Jagannath Deva came to Sardanga and are being served by the devotees here.
Indradyumna Maharaj belonging to Malavadesh was a vaishnava. He desired for the darshan of the Lord. Vidyapathi was his priest and a devotee. Nila Madhava was accepting the service of Vishwavasu who was the king of Sabardesh. When Vidyapathi desired to have darshan of Nila Madhava, Vishwavasu took him with his eyes blind-folded because of which he could not know the route, but Vidyapathi went all the way throwing mustard seeds. He had darshan of Nila Madhava and Nila Madhava even conversed with him. Vishwavasu was worshiping the Lord offering root vegetables (kanda-mūla) and one day Jagannath (Nila Madhava) tells him, “I do not like these herbs and roots, I will accept royal service.” Then Vishwavasu feared and had kept Vidyapathi imprisoned. As Vishwavasu’s daughter Lalita was married to Vidyapathi, she felt unhappy that her husband was imprisoned. On the requests of Lalita, Vishwavasu released Vidhyapati. When released, Vidyapathi rushed to Indradyumna Maharaj and told him, “Nila Madhava, Whom you desired to have darshan of is manifest and is residing in Sabardesh.” Indradyumna Maharaj marched to the place with his army and surrounded the kingdom. He also imprisoned Vishwavasu, but when he went to the place he found that Nila Madhava was not there. Seeing this he fainted and later laid down on the grass giving up eating and drinking. Nila Madhava came in his dream and said, “I will not give you darshan in the form of Nila Madhava, but will manifest as ‘dāru brahma’ (The Lord in the form of wood).” So, in Chakra Tirtha dāru brahma came and three chariots (rathas) were built. Earlier, the temple was built by Vishwakarma. Three dāru brahmas came afloat in the river and were manifested into deities by Ananta Maharana. This is history.
Now, making Vidyapathi, Sabar’s chief Vishwavasu and Indradyumna Maharaj, mediums, Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra manifested to bestow mercy on them and also on others too by Their darshan.
Now they are here also by their wonderful pastimes. All holy Tirthas that are present in Vrindavan Dhama are also present here in Navadvip Dhama. Under the pretext of being harassed by demon Raktabahu, Jagannath enacted the pastime of coming here. This is non-different from Purushottam Dhama. This is Sardanga. The benefit one attains by visiting Purushottam Dhama, one can attain by coming here. It is the same place. Here, our Satya Govinda Prabhu was serving Jagannath. Now ISKCON has established a temple here. We see that this place has been beautified by our śikṣā guru Param Pujyapad Srila AC Bhakti Vedanta Swami Maharaj who established ISKCON organization. We have some place here to sit and Jagannath is eternally present here, this is Purushottam Dhama. You please offer your obeisances here and pray for mercy.
