Glories of Chandrasekhar Acharya Bhavan

Sri Chandrasekhar Acharya, or Acharya Ratna as he was sometimes referred to, was the great second branch of Lord Chaitanya’s desire tree of devotional service. He was Lord Chaitanya’s maternal uncle, the husband of Sarvajaya, Saci Mata’s sister. He, like Jagannatha Mishra was originally a resident of Sylhet. Lord Chaitanya had enacted a beautiful play, revealing the pastimes of Vrindavana, here at Chandrasekhar Bhavan, that enchanted the hearts of all the devotees.

Here in Chandrashekar Acharya Bhavan, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said, “Now I shall play the pastimes of Lakshmi Devi, I shall dance by taking the form of Lakshmi Devi. Those who have control over their sense organs, those who have conquered the sense organs they will be eligible to see this, they will be entitled to see this.” Then Advaita Acharya and Srivas Pandit became dejected, “We have got no control over our sense organs, we are slaves of sense organs. So how can we see? We are deprived.”

Advaita Acharya, by worshiping with the water of the Ganges and basil (Tulasi) leaves has brought Goloka-pati Sri Hari, the Original Bhagavan here. What is he saying? “I am not entitled because I am a slave of my sense organs.” By whose grace we can conquer our sense organs, he is saying this! If anybody says that I have got the ability to control the senses, then they have vanity and he will not be entitled. When Srivas Pandit and Advaita Acharya said, “We have got no control over sense organs, we are slaves of sense organs. How can we have the right? How are we entitled to see Your dance as Lakshmi? You have imposed this condition but we cannot fulfill it.” Then Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said, “By My grace you will be able to conquer all senses.” Then they are allowed to see.

We have to think about the significance of this. When we have vanity, we are not entitled. When we shall have humbleness, we are entitled. We can see. Then we can get the grace of the Supreme Lord, that qualification.

And after that, Srivas Pandit played the pastimes of Narada Goswami. Narada Goswami has gone in search of Krishna, “I went to Vrindavan, Vraja Dham. And after searching, I could not see Krishna there, Krishna was not there. I heard that Krishna is now in Navadvip as Son of Sachi Devi and Jagannath Mishra. They are one with Yashoda Devi and Nanda Maharaj.” Can we understand this? After that he said, “I shall have to come to Navadvip Dham to see Krishna.” By seeing his drama, in India we say drama, Sachi mata fainted, became unconscious. Haridas Thakur played the pastimes of a kotavāla, a guard, giving warning to others, “Get up! Get up!” And at that time Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said, “I shall play the pastimes of Rukmini,” and as Rukmini, He was writing a letter to Krishna and weeping. All these pastimes were performed here. Ultimately, when all the devotees are very much mentally dejected, they are very much glad by seeing the Bhagavati murti of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu took the form, actually, of Yogamaya. Some people said, She is Mahakali, She is Sita, like something, according to their wish. And ultimately Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in separation grief took them all in His lap, or Her lap now, and suckled them to Her breast as Bhagavati. So much affection Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has for the devotees. The place is vraja-pattan, vraja-līlā.

Ei sthāne mahāprabhu devi bhāve vraja-līlā nātak abhinaya kariyāchen, ei stāna vraja pattan. This place is known as vraja-pattan or varaja-potā because Chaitanya Mahaprabhu played the pastimes of vraja-līlā here. This instance (prasaṅga) has been narrated in Chaitanya Bhagavat, Madhya, 18th Chapter. You go through this 18th Chapter Madhya, then you will get it in detail.
