श्री गोविंद घोष की महिमा

कृष्ण-लीला में घोष बंधु, वासुदेव घोष, माधव घोष और गोविंद घोष अपने वास्तविक रूपों में सखी के रूप में विशाखा-सखी के आनुगत्य में युगल की सेवा के लिए गीत गाते हैं। वासु घोष, माधव घोष और गोविंद घोष क्रमशः कृष्ण-लीला में कलावती, रसोल्लासा और गुणतुंगा हैं। गौर-लीला में, गौर-नित्यानंद परमानंद में नृत्य करते हैं, जब गोविंद घोष और वासु घोष कीर्तन करते हैं।

कृष्ण लीला में जो ‘कलावती’, ‘रसोल्लासा’ और ‘गुणतुङ्गा’ विशाखा सखी के आनुगत्य में गान करती हैं, वे ही अब(गौरलीला में) यथाक्रम गोविन्द घोष, माधव घोष और वासुदेव घोष, तीन भाइयों के रूप में प्रकट हुए, वे राढ़ीय शौक्रकायस्थ कुल में आविर्भूत हुए।

गोविन्द घोष ने लगातार तीन दिन(72 घण्टे) तक कीर्तन किया जिसमें वक्रेश्वर पण्डित ने नृत्य किया था। इतने लम्बे समय तक गान करने के बाद भी उनकी और कीर्तन करने की इच्छा थी। वक्रेश्वर पण्डित लगातार नृत्य कर रहे थे, उनके सामने सब कीर्तन नहीं कर सकते, किन्तु गोविन्द घोष ने लगातार कीर्तन किया था। (पुरी में रथयात्रा के समय सात-मण्डलियों में से चौथी मण्डली में) मूल कीर्तनीया थे—गोविन्द घोष। वासुघोष और माधव घोष (दोहार करने वाले थे।)

कृष्णलीला में वे विशाखा सखी के अन्तर्गत उनके निर्देशानुसार गान करते हैं। इस गौरलीला में जब गोविन्द घोष-वासुघोष गान करते हैं, स्वयं गौर-नित्यानन्द उनके कीर्तन में उद्दंड नृत्य करते हैं।

श्रीमन्महाप्रभु के निर्देशानुसार श्रीगोविन्द घोष जी ने गृहस्थाश्रम स्वीकार किया था। जब उनकी स्त्री व पुत्र ने स्वधाम गमन किया तो उन्हें चिन्ता हुई कि उनकी मृत्यु के बाद उनका पिण्ड कौन देगा। उनके घर में श्रीमन्महाप्रभु द्वारा दी हुई शीला से श्रीगोपीनाथ विग्रह प्रकटित हुए थे। गोपीनाथ ने उन्हें कहा—मैं तुम्हारा पिण्ड दान करूँगा। आज भी श्रीगोविन्द घोष जी की अप्रकट तिथि में श्रीगोपीनाथ जी पिण्डदान करते हैं।

भारत में मृत व्यक्ति की आत्मा के कल्याण के लिए पिण्ड दान करने की व्यवस्था है। आत्मा की कभी मृत्यु नहीं होती। इसलिए व्यक्ति के मरने पर उसकी पत्नी अथवा पुत्र उसका पिण्डदान करते हैं। पाश्चात्य देशों में यह विधि प्रचलित नहीं है किन्तु भारत में यह प्रथा अभी भी देखी जाती है।

In Krishna-lila the Ghosh brothers, Govind Ghosh, Madhav Ghosh and Vasudev Ghosh sing songs to the Divine Couple under Vishakha sakhi in their real forms as sakhis. In Krishna-lila they are Kalavati, Rasollasa and Gunatunga respectively. In Gaura-lila, Gaura-Nityananda dance in ecstasy when Govind Ghosh and Vasu Ghosh perform kirtan.

In Krishna-lila the three personalities Vasu Ghosh, Madhav Ghosh and Govind Ghosh sing songs to the Divine Couple under Vishakha-sakhi in their real forms as sakhis. In Krishna-lila they are Kalavati, Rasollasa and Gunatunga respectively. The Ghosh brothers were born in an upper class kayastha family from northern Rarha. Govind Ghosh performed kirtan continuously for three days in which Vakresvar Pandit danced (performed nritya) incessantly. In spite of dancing for three continuous days, he desired to perform more nritya.

It is not possible for all to perform Kirtan (singing) with Govind Ghosh for so long. During the Rathayatra festival, he was the lead singer in the fourth Kirtan group. His two brothers, Vasu Ghosh and Madhav Ghosh also performed Kirtan with him.

In Krishna-lila these three brothers, under guidance of Vishakha-sakhi, sing sweet songs to the Divine Couple, and in the Gaur-lila, Gaur-Nityananda dance in ecstasy when Govind Ghosh and Vasu Ghosh used to perform Kirtan.

By the desire of Mahaprabhu, Govind Ghosh accepted Grihastha-ashrama (householder-life). But when his wife and son left their bodies he became worried about who would perform his last rites (as it is considered important to have a son who can do the Shraddha ceremony for parents). On Mahaprabhu’s direction, Govind had revealed the Gopinath deity from a black stone in Agradvipa. Gopinath appeared to him and said, “I will perform your Shraddha after your death.”

In India this ritual for offering Pinda (rice balls) to a dead person is there. Atma (the soul) cannot be killed. So after a man dies, his son should offer him Pinda for his eternal benefit. In the West this custom is not found but here in India it is prevalent.

When Govind Ghosh left this world, Gopinath was true to His word and offered him Pinda. Even now, Gopinath continues to perform this ceremony every year on the anniversary of Govind Ghosh’s departure from the world. This takes place on the waning moon (Krishna-dvadashi) of the month of Chaitra. Vasu Ghosh’s disappearance day is on the second day of the waxing moon (Sukla Dvitiya) in the month of Kartik.
